About Us – old

Irene Weiss, MFT

On the path to finding love, fulfilling work and meaning, there will be challenges that make us feel anxious, depressed, angry or just uncertain. Life never stays the same. While change often brings joy, it can also cause stress and place great strains on our closest relationships. During these times, I believe that exploring our feelings and personal goals in a safe, nurturing environment can help us adjust to these inevitable changes.

I come from an artistic background with a BA in theater/dance, and am a visual artist and a singer/songwriter as well. I value family, good friends and am revived by journeys out into nature. In addition to talk and play therapy, I have included art, music, drama and poetry in my work. I also find that humor helps to facilitate connection and communication.

While grief, loss, and depression are universal experiences, everyone deals with these issues differently. This is why one of my goals is to adapt therapy to your individual needs and wants. I enjoy working with adults, teens, and children of all ages, leading groups, and counseling couples and families. I have a strong background helping people with their relationship challenges and life transitions. During my ten years of providing therapy in inpatient, outpatient and private practice settings, I have also worked with those who have substance abuse issues as well as with victims of trauma, abuse and neglect.

As a Marriage and Family Therapist and artist, I believe in the importance of the process or journey toward healing and self-fulfillment. I believe that focusing on your strengths and getting in touch with the body, mind and spirit can help promote health and well-being. I can offer you empathy, respect and listening without judgment, because to be truly heard is what makes us grow, adjust, and live to our fullest capacity.

My hope is to help you remove whatever has been blocking you from true happiness and success.

Relationships and life can be challenging. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is ask for help. I am here to make that process as easy as possible and to help you self-actualize, gain more satisfaction in your relationships, and to help you manage whatever symptoms you may be having. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist since 2001. I have experience working with substance abuse, domestic violence, PTSD, depression, and generalized anxiety. I work with individuals, couples, and families. My experience also includes work with adolescents and school-based treatments.

I have worked in the Latino, LGBT, and dual diagnosed populations just to name a few. I love people and feel that all “problems” have a solution. Sometimes these ”problems” are the very gateway to becoming the truest form of ourselves that we can be.

It is my strong belief that a therapeutic relationship can lead to insights and change. I encourage a safe, comfortable, non-judgmental, and empathetic environment where we can work in union to help develop coping skills to allow you to overcome the obstacles in your life.

I am passionate about working with adolescents, individuals, couples and families. Creative healing approaches enhance personal awareness, self-expression and connection. Together with a client I identify learning styles and determine the best approach. If indicated, I utilize various low skill/high sensitivity arts and action methods emphasizing safety, trust, self-discovery and expansion of range of play, self awareness, role development and life skills practice and mastery. Imagination is one of our superpowers and with guidance, clients trust themselves and how their intuition and imagination works in the emergence of their authentic self.
